New Memories is a sprawling multi-discipline arts venue in the hamlet of Parksville, New York — where music, film, theatre, visual art, and community converge under one extraordinary, hand-built roof.
Founded by Ali Azios, Marcus Brooks, and James Karpowicz, this space was born from the conviction that art belongs to everyone — that a hamlet in the Catskills can be as alive as any city block if the people in it decide to make it so.
The building itself has a story. Sitting on the outskirts of Liberty, New York, the sprawling warehouse once housed the beloved "Memories" antique store — a fixture of local life for decades and a destination for anyone who knew that the best things are always found off the main road, just past the only traffic light in town.
Then the road moved. In the early 2000s, they rerouted the highway and took down the traffic light — the old Route 17, which had run directly in front of the building, feeding it a steady stream of travelers and curiosity-seekers, was decommissioned as traffic was rerouted to the newly constructed Highway 17. Overnight, Parksville was bypassed. The hamlet fell quiet. The warehouse, orphaned by the new corridor, sat empty for years, slowly falling into disrepair. It stayed that way for nearly two decades.
In 2021, Ali Azios and Marcus Brooks bought the building. Over the following two years, they gutted and rebuilt it from the inside out — mending roofs, reinforcing structural supports, rewiring, replumbing, and restoring what time and neglect had taken. It was painstaking, unglamorous work. It was also an act of faith.
As life was breathed back into the building, something shifted in the community around it. New Memories opened not just as a venue, but as a declaration: that Parksville was not forgotten, that the arts could lead a revival, and that a community — like a building — can always be rebuilt.
